Festive Chick Lit Christmas Quotes from My Books

Chick lit Christmas quotes from my novels. Tree, champagne, white opera glove.

Christmas 2020: Pre-kids, in my Grammy’s vintage gloves, holding a flute of champagne in front of our Christmas tree.

With the 25th on the horizon, I wanted to visit some of the chick lit Christmas quotes I’ve written about in my short stories and fashion fiction novels. While typically my books don’t have a festive focus, I have an upcoming novella that is going to be completely centred around the cheery holiday. Without giving too much away, I can tell you it’s called The Fashion Girl Goes Home. But if you follow me on social media, you already know that.

Last Christmas, between trying to wrangle two toddlers, keeping a puppy calm, missing our flight, almost losing our kids’ carseats, and renting a tragic Airbnb for nostalgic purposes, we vowed to take a year off from holiday travel. One of the best things to come out of that 3-week jaunt was The Fashion Girl Goes Home. Amidst the Christmas chaos, I found inspiration to write. And write, and write, and write. By the end of the trip I’d reached 12,000+ words! The story was literally pouring out of me. (Almost as quickly as the festive mimosas were pouring in.)

Now, I’m up to 23,542 and nowhere near done. Although, I’d set my goal around 15K or something like that. This Christmas romance, fashion fiction, chick-lit book was supposed to be as short as a Miu Miu miniskirt and as sweet as Salt & Straw. (My favourite is the sea salt with caramel ribbons.) However, as of right now, it seems like it’s on track to be as lengthy as Gisele Bündchen in 6-inch heels.

To be honest, I’d love The Fashion Girl Goes Home to reach 31,000 words. I have an obsession with numbers that can make or add up to 13. Hence my short story collection, Thirteen Emotions. Whatever. It’s a thing.

Awake in the Woods, Thirteen Emotions

They were at a rented cottage, deep in the woods. It was the week of Christmas and they were devastatingly alone. The roads were desolate, as they’d noticed on a jaunt to the grocery store, and most neighbors had returned back to their homes in the city. Andrew, who claimed not to fear anything, insisted they stay.

The Manhattan Mishap

Tracy’s steely glare is burning into me hotter than the sun that time I spent Christmas in Los Cabos and only brought SPF15. Why did I have to say anything? But now that I’m up and all attention is on me, I feel like I need to take advantage of it.

The Fashion Girl Goes Home

Packing for Christmas in her hometown is every fashion girl’s worst nightmare. Reese Hartley, who at the moment felt as if she might never awake from that particular horror, was no exception. After all, she was one of very few fashion girls to have escaped her small town. And now here she was, going back like she did every year, leaving a wafting trail of Santal 33 in her confident wake.

Why use chick lit Christmas lore in my novels?

Christmas lore in chick lit novels often serves as a backdrop for romance and self-discovery, intertwining festive traditions with relatable personal journeys. Characters frequently find themselves navigating the chaos of holiday planning, from awkward family gatherings to whimsical encounters in bustling holiday markets. The season is portrayed as a magical time when unexpected love can blossom amidst twinkling lights and warm cocoa, while also addressing deeper themes of loneliness and the search for belonging. Whether it’s a quirky misunderstanding or a meet-cute by the Christmas tree, these narratives encapsulate the spirit of the holidays, reminding readers that love, friendship, and a touch of holiday magic can transform even the most challenging situations.

While this is certainly true for The Fashion Girl Goes Home, it’s not as evident in my other short stories and fashion fiction novels. In Awake in the Woods from Thirteen Emotions, a couple is away at a rented cottage, deep in the forest, with no one around to help them if they happen to find themselves in a scary situation. Which, of course, they do. But is the darkness simply playing tricks on them or is there something more sinister lurking in the firs?

In chapter one of The Manhattan Mishap, Margot Moss also finds herself in quite a scenario. She likens her boss’s steely stare to the intensity of the sun in Los Cabos the time she spent Christmas on the beach. It’s a mini mention of the festive season, but one that holds more between the lines. Or at least, between the memories. I spent one Christmas in Mexico with my ex-boyfriend and his family. It was incredible. (The beach, that is.) I’d love to go back with my kids one day.

Here’s a little sip of what a bubbling fashion fiction Christmas could look like:

In the heart of bustling Manhattan, the air hummed with excitement as the holiday season unfolded, wrapping the city in a blanket of glimmering lights and high-fashion ambition. This Christmas, the annual holiday gala was the talk of everyone who’s anyone—especially those with style in their bones. The streets were a runway, filled with stylishly bundled socialites, each adorned in bold colours and luxe textures, making heads turn with every step. Amidst the twinkling spirit, our heroine juggled her overflowing closet while plotting to unveil a daring outfit that would outshine even the glittering backdrop of the event. Little did she know, the perfect fashion piece had a surprise in store, twisting her Christmas Eve into a whirlwind of romance and unexpected connections.

Stay tuned for The Fashion Girl Goes Home coming next year! And for now, you can buy Thirteen Emotions and The Manhattan Mishap through my bookstore, Amazon, Bookshop.org, and more.

Merry Christmas!
