Thirteen Emotions: A Short Story Collection
Ever since I was a tiny girl, I’ve been writing. If it wasn’t short stories in school and in my spare time, then it was definitely in my diary. I also have dozens of journals and notebooks with little blurbs and pieces of fiction. No joke. And now, a bunch of those stories are becoming a book called Thirteen Emotions. And it’s publishing worldwide on June 1, 2024. First, because I think June is the most gorgeous month, and second, because I can’t wait any longer.
When the pandemic hit, I found myself with lots of time on my hands. As did everyone else. I was jobless and childless and decided to throw myself full-time into my writing. Of course, I finished writing and publishing my first novel, The Manhattan Mishap, during that time, but I also began penning a collection of short stories and flash fiction.
I wanted them to all be connected somehow and decided on a theme: feelings. So, I started googling different emotions and chose 13 of them to be the inspiration for 13 short stories about grief, losing someone you love, missing an ex, feeling like you want to murder your spouse.
Here’s a fun (or perhaps somber is the right word) fact: thirteen has been an emotional number for me since my dad passed away. He was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer on April 13th and passed away on October 13th of the same year. After he died, I got the number 13 in Roman numerals tattooed on my arm. When I met my husband a couple of years later, we took that as a kind of serendipitous sign because 13 had always been an important number in his life too.
Anyway, the book is publishing in just under a month and I’m so excited.
Thirteen Emotions, a collection of short stories, will be available on Amazon across the globe on October 13, 2024.
I’ll also have a limited-run of 31 copies for sale through my online bookstore. Those ones will be signed and will include a little handwritten note from yours truly.
I’ve created a Thirteen Emotions playlist to get you in the mood for getting deep in your feelings. It features songs like Emotions by Mariah Carey, So Emotional by Christina Aguilera, Feels by Kehlani, Everybody Dies by Billie Eilish, and more. Listen on Spotify, Tidal, and Apple Music.
