Happy One-Year Anniversary to The Manhattan Mishap

The Manhattan Mishap novel on a brown leather couch, illuminated by sunlight.

Omg! One whole year already. Can you believe it? Time is zooming by. My book is turning one, my babies are (almost) turning one, and I’m… not turning anything but more fierce than I was before. Feliz cumpleaños a mi primero libro! Happy first birthday to The Manhattan Mishap.

Over the last year, The Manhattan Mishap hit some highs.

First of all, through my publisher, The Manhattan Mishap became available at over 40,000 retailers worldwide. Isn’t that wild? I still get a kick out of searching for my novel on a random bookstore’s website and finding it available to buy. From America to Australia, my book is for sale! Crazy.

However, having the insatiable appetite for furthering my success that I do, having it online only wasn’t enough. Not even close.

So, I decided to purchase book return insurance. That meant that my novel would hit the shelves in physical bookstores. And if I thought it was exciting having my book online, it’s absolutely thrilling to see it in-store! It’s the best feeling. So far, The Manhattan Mishap can be found at Indigo across Canada as well as Book Soup on the Sunset Strip and two independent bookstores in Victoria.

Of course, there are still areas that I want to improve in. For example, I’d love my book to be available in libraries across the globe as well. I’ve applied to have it on the shelves in Victoria, Vancouver, Toronto, and New York. The library in Victoria has recently accepted me into their “emerging local authors” program. Yay! Starting in Spring 2023, it’ll be on special display at the downtown branch and be available to check out from any branch in the city.

There have also been a few “failures”:

  • Barnes & Noble declined to have my book on the shelves, stating: “The buyer has decided not to stock The Manhattan Mishap on the shelves of our retail stores at this time. Your book will be available for customer special order at more than 600 Barnes & Noble stores, as well as online.”

  • Writer’s Digest didn’t select it for their self-published book awards. Oh well, there’s always next year!

  • I have been scammed not once, but three times. Sometimes things really are just too good to be true.

Regardless of any “failures” or setbacks, I’m going to keep pushing forward and trying to make the most out of The Manhattan Mishap. You know, before book number two comes out. (I have one already written but haven’t had time to edit it since I gave birth to my twins.)

Thanks to everyone who has bought and read The Manhattan Mishap! Your support has meant the world to me. I still can’t believe that I wrote and published a book — something I’d been dreaming of for decades. From now until November 13, 2022 you can buy The Manhattan Mishap through my online bookstore for fifty percent off. Get your copy here.

Stay tuned for what’s next. Love and appreciate you.
