Reading Short Story Excerpts from Thirteen Emotions in My Bathroom

Reading an excerpt from What I Miss About You while wearing this super cute Khy dress.

If Hailey Bieber wants you to guess who’s in her bathroom, then I suppose I want you to guess what I’m reading in mine. Think of my social media series like the literary little sister. Except, there’s no guessing at all and the title is clearly labeled. But whatever, I digress. This post will showcase the Thirteen Emotions short story excerpts I’m reading in my bathroom while serving looks and emotional turmoil. You’ll laugh, cry, and hopefully not frown for too long or you’ll be requesting a side of Botox alongside my book.

So, why am I reading emotional short stories in my bathroom? Well, that’s where some of the best lighting in our townhouse resides. Is it a little bit weird to be standing fully-clothed with makeup on in my free-standing tub? Sure. However, an author’s gotta do what she’s gotta do. And when the lighting hits right, the story comes to life. (Tbh that should be a saying in bookish circles.)

Reading emotional short stories, like the ones in Thirteen Emotions, offers a journey through the intricacies of the human experience, capturing profound moments in a condensed form. Each narrative invites readers to immerse themselves in the joys, sorrows, and transformations each character goes through, fostering a deep emotional connection that can linger long after the final page is turned.

These stories, with their poignant themes and carefully crafted prose, can evoke tears, laughter, or reflective silence, reminding us of the feelings we, at times, bury deep beneath the surface. Death, divorce, love, lust, grief, greed, goals. In just a few pages, the short stories in Thirteen Emotions challenge us to confront our own feelings and experiences, ultimately enriching our understanding of empathy and resilience.

What I Miss About You

This one is a story about missing someone you were once in love with. Maybe it was a bad break-up. Or perhaps two people just realized they weren’t right for each other and went their separate ways. What I Miss About You describes cozy memories, a wistful future, and the hopes that one woman had for her former relationship.

A Man in Your Situation

Eek—a scandalous one. A Man in Your Situation follows the narrative of a mistress, awaiting her lover in a swanky hotel room. She’s completely consumed with love, lust, and the poignancy of not actually being able to call him her own. Since beginning their affair, she has become accustomed to a life she otherwise wouldn’t have been able to experience.

The Perfect Excuse

A young wife awaits the return of her husband from a business trip in The Perfect Excuse. Unexpectedly, he arrives back to their New York City apartment while the dinner she’s preparing—his favourite meal—has yet to have a chance to simmer on the stove. What boils more rapidly is her rage as he brings her news she wasn’t expecting. “You insipid asshole,” she spits.

Awake in the Woods

My attempt at a slightly scary story. I love reading thrillers, however, I don’t think I’m very good at writing them. There is always a glamorous and lighthearted theme that thinly runs through the narrative. For example, the couple in Awake in the Woods live in a chic penthouse overlooking Central Park and they’re at a romantic lakefront cabin for Christmas. But perhaps something darker is lurking down below the dock…

Broken Glass Forever

For anyone with kids who has gone through a divorce, this one might be difficult to digest. A dedicated wife, and mother, confronts her husband after catching him in a compromising situation. Although her husband deserves her wrath, her thoughts immediately sprint to their two daughters. Can they repair their family or will they become forever broken, like a shattered glass?

Emotional short stories resonate deeply because they capture the essence of human experience in a concise yet powerful way. In a flash, these narratives can evoke a range of feelings, from happiness to heartache, offering a glimpse into the complexities of life and relationships. The brevity of short stories allows authors to distill their messages, delivering sentimental moments that linger in the mind long after the last line is read.

This ability to connect with book lovers on an emotional level creates a shared experience, one that highlights our common struggles and triumphs, reminding us of the beauty and fragility of life. Whether you’ve lost a loved one, been cheated on, been the other woman, feared for your life, or been the happiest you’ve ever been, the emotional short stories in Thirteen Emotions have something for everyone to relate to. Are you ready to get in your feelings?
