My Summer 2020 Playlist: From Snoh Aalegra to JoJo, Kehlani, and Kiana Ledé
There’s something you should know about me—I’m obsessed with making playlists. I love it. If I let it, crafting the perfect playlist can eat up hours of my life. Seriously. However, it’s worth it because I always, undoubtedly, have the perfect arrangement of songs for the right time. For example, when my friend had a Simple Life-themed birthday bash, I curated the grooviest playlist of 2007 mega-hits—from Pussycat Dolls to Nelly, Christina Milian, Lindsay Lohan, and of course, Paris Hilton.
My love of playlists goes back to the good ol’ Limewire days and burning literally hundreds of CDs at the expense of my monthly allowance. Things have gotten considerably easier and cheaper since then. Every year, I create a summer playlist featuring all of the songs I can’t currently get enough of, both old and new.

Recently, after digging through thousands (okay—more like two dozen) of boxes from my move into my boyfriend’s apartment, I found my iPod Touch from 2012. It was the last one I ever had and kept. First there was the classic, then the mini, and then the nano. But I have no idea where any of those went. (Very mysterious.) I’ve loved going through and finding all of the downloaded classics that aren’t on streaming services—like Shake It Off by Mariah Carey, Jay-Z, and Young Jeezy. Or the Hate It Or Love It remix by The Game featuring Mary J Blige.
So, here are the songs I can’t get off repeat this summer. And before you ask, no, this is not on Spotify. I’m a Tidal girl through and through. (I’ll admit—I got a free trial for Lemonade and then never cancelled.)
