Happy 33rd Birthday to Me

On Tuesday, I celebrated my 33rd birthday. Yay! Happy fierce, fabulous, flirty thirty-three to me. It was my first birthday in Los Angeles. We were living here last year too, but on the morning of June 11th, we landed in Paris for our belated honeymoon. It was a total dream come true! We ate dinner at Kong too, where Carrie eats in Paris with Aleksandr Petrovsky’s ex-wife.

This year, things were decidedly more chill. We grabbed donuts from Trejo’s on the way to Malibu and spent the morning frolicking at the beach. It was a grey day but we loved it nonetheless. We would’ve gone later in the day but you know how it is with toddler nap times. Later on, my husband brought out a birthday cake from Milk Bar (my fave) and my sons wished me happy birthday for the first time. Then, we left the boys with our babysitter and went… bowling! Neither of us had bowled in 20 years but it was so much fun.

Overall, it was an incredible day. I loved every second of it.

I’ve always loved June, too. It’s my favourite month. And I may have also made it Margot’s favourite month in The Manhattan Mishap. If you’ve read the book, you’ll recognize this passage:

“June is the most delicious month. It tastes like juicy mangoes and icy martinis. Not only is it the best part of the Gemini season, but it’s the initiation of poolside prosecco, strapless tops, and ceviche on the patio in Kensington Market. Of course, my birthday is also in June, but that’s not the only reason why I love it—I swear.”

On the weekend, I’m having a few girlfriends over for champagne and charcuterie on our rooftop. Not only is it my first time celebrating my birthday in LA, but the first time celebrating with my new friends. We’ll be sipping bubbles, gossiping about whatever we feel like, and listening to a killer playlist.
