7 Small Canadian Brands to Shop, Support & Spread the Word About

Ok, I can read the room. And judging by how well my last post about small Canadian brands to shop is still doing — it was posted in November 2020 — it’s definitely time to write a new one! That post is by far my top performing blog post. Even after two years! Well, that and the one about dating a trust fund baby.

So, here we go again with 7 more small Canadian brands to shop! Remember that when you support these small Canadian businesses, you’re really helping someone out. Your money isn’t going to a big corporation. It’s helping someone follow their dreams! And doesn’t that feel fabulous?

NACU Studios

Founded by one of my good friends, NACU Studios is an effortlessly cool collection of edgy and elevated streetwear. They focus on slow fashion, reworking designs and using dead stock fabrics to combat the wastefulness of the industry. I have a blazer from the first collection and a draped dress from collection three. Both garments are endlessly versatile and can be styled in a million different ways.

Wild Kernel Co

Recently, I started going to a farmer’s market in my neighbourhood. That’s where I discovered Wild Kernel Co. And omg it was amazing. I bought a bag of white cheddar popcorn to snack on one Sunday and… well, the entire bag somehow disappeared and I was the only one eating it. Up next, I want to try the caramel.

Send a DM to order a bag of popcorn here. You can also order via Highmark Farm on Local Line.

Olive Branch Home Decor

I found Olive Branch Home Decor on Etsy. They’re based in Ontario and make gorgeous, custom, laser-cut signs. I ordered two for my sons to go above their cribs. They really brought their nursery area together!

Sheringham Distillery

Happy hour is tradition in my family. As soon as the clock strikes 5PM, you can hear ice cubes clanging and bottles hitting the counter. (Although, for me these days it’s more like seven o’clock because I can’t drink until the twins are in bed for the night.) And while most of my family members prefer different drinks from one another, there’s one beverage we all agree wholeheartedly on: Seaside Gin by Sheringham Distillery.

Try the best gin you’ve ever tasted here.

Bilston Creek Farm

If you love lavender, then you’ll want to check out Bilston Creek Farm. Located between the ocean and the forest on Vancouver Island, everything the farm produces is crafted from “pure botanicals, lavender, honey and apples.” Some of my favourites are the facial toning mist, dried lavender bunches, and wildflower honey.

Inhale that fresh lavender scent here.

ORA-C Jewelry

I like my jewellery to be low-key but statement-making. Does that make sense? Well, that’s what I think of when I see ORA-C’s pieces. Everything is made by hand in designer Caroline Pham’s Montreal studio. Something I love about the brand: they care about sustainability. A lot of what they offer is made-to-order to avoid waste.

Browse the drop-dead gorgeous collections here.

The Manhattan Mishap

Of course I have to bring up my début novel. Don’t judge me! I’m a small business too. I have my own little online bookstore and am attempting to make a career out of writing the sassy stories that I love to read. So if you love drama-filled, fashion-forward novels, get a copy of The Manhattan Mishap today.

Smoke & Tears

This is a bonus entry! I didn’t find out about Smoke & Tears until after this post had gone live, so I’m including it a little late. But better late than never. And better spicy and flavourful than bland. I met the woman behind the brand at The Neighbourhood Market where we were both selling our small business goodies. I ended up ordering two of The 6ix bundles for Christmas presents!

Shop smokin’ hot sauces here.
